Tips to Eat Healthy and not Gain Weight on Vacation!

So much food and so much time to eat it!! Is this how we feel when on vacation or what?

My husband Tom and I have had a few vacations and we love taking them for sure. I love food and I mean I really love Healthy food with the occasional treats. So when vacation time comes; I think most of us think we will gain weight because we are off our regular schedules and regular eating habits tend to go away for this time. Its weird because most people work so hard before a vacation to lose weight and look better and then come back weighing even more than before they left, or some tell me that they only gained back what they lost before they left. Either way, people tell me that they don't feel good about it!
I have never been someone to just let my healthy eating habits completely go, sure I have gained weight have had treats more than I should and have had to start over too, but I mean I have never not cared or thought about what I put in my body.
So if you want to go on vacation and not gain weight follow some of my tips below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some top tips to help you eat healthy on vacation and not gain weight!

1. Pack meal supplements with you and a small blender too! This will help you when in your hotel room to make a good meal and keep your energy up for all your adventures.

2. When you arrive take a look around at the food choices available to you, get menus and read them and plan out what you can order to stay focused on eating clean. This will help you to plan so you can still eat every 3-4 hours and make the best choices possible in portion sizes.

3. Bring water with you where ever you go!! And Limit alcohol. IF you are going to have a drink, choose a glass of wine or something that isn't loaded with a ton of extra sugar or fat. If you really want one of those kind of drinks count it as your dessert and that means NO DESSERT!!!
Drink plenty of water in between to help stay hydrated and also so you can enjoy the drink and keep enjoying your vacation. :)

4. Walk, Exercise and MOVE!!!!! Keep moving and doing so you are burning more calories!! Check out what exercise options you have, some places have really nice workout areas that you can use while you stay there, hey an extra 30 minutes of working out doesn't take that long and will keep you going!!!

Secret to An Amazing Body!

Finding the way to fire up the body to burn fat and look amazing, sometimes seems like a BATTLE!! I have to tell you that resistance training along with Eating Clean can make all the difference in the world for you. I say these two things today because I have found that most woman skip resistance or weight training and focus all their attention on cardio exercise. Now don't get me wrong cardio exercise is part of the journey too, and is a great form of exercise, I teach a bunch of it and do my own share of it as well. My point is this, so many women fall in to the cardio trap. What is the Cardio Trap? I think it is when we think we need to eat less and burn as many calories as possible while doing cardio. HMM, are we burning off our much needed muscle here?? When you start to lose weight you will burn less calories and you have to work harder to burn the same amount you used to be able to burn. Also, when you start to get used to the cardio exercise your body adjusts and doesn't burn the same amount of calories anymore. So what are we to do?

I have watched women for years work on cardio, cardio and more cardio and then only do a series of a few machines for weight training. I am very happy that I see them doing something, so don't get me wrong, I think that is great. What I am talking about is the women that want to see more results and when they are told to do resistance more or different than what they are doing, or told they need to eat more ; well they don't do it. I know alot of times it is because they are not sure of how or what to do. So when we as fitness professionals say things like add dumbells or cables equipment in or try yoga or PiYo; the ladies sometimes are not sure of what to do with the dumbells or are intimidated to try a class. This is part of why I have a strong passion to connect with woman and get them in the weight room or in to a class and feel good about it. Also to understand that if you prefer to workout at home in private, there are a ton of options out there to help you do just that. I keep doing more and adding more to my business so I can reach as many people as possible and help them be healthy and truly see the results they want and live the life they want. So let's keep going!

Boosting the Metabolism is Key:
Men tend to burn more calories than women. Also for most of us the metabolism slows down after we turn 40 years old. The body does burn calories all the time even when we are sleeping. Those that have muscle burn more calories at rest. Every pound of muscle we have uses about six calories a day and fat only two a day. After a great muscle workout you can increase your daily average metabolic rate! This is great news!!

Tip for a great Cardio workout:

1. Remember that you can burst your metabolism better by doing higher intensity cardio workouts. The great thing about this is you can do it for a shorter time. This will rev that metabolism hours after the workout. You must work it!! I love HIIT ( high intensity interval training) I get this when I do Turbo Fire!!

Well the SECRET to AN AMAZING BODY that is healthy and fit inside and out is this:

1. Add Weight Training or Resistance Training in to your weekly routine at least two to three times a week. I would love to see it in your workout schedule more than this, but hey I want it to be realistic for you too. If you are just starting out with weight training, doing it two times a week is probably a great way to see results and as you get stronger you will make adjustments and changes in order to keep going and not plateau. If you have been doing weights already and are still not seeing results, well it is probably time for a change in your routine, reps, sets and how much weight you lift. This means you need to change your intensity level while you workout. Are you working hard enough? Do you feel it? Don't be afraid of lifting heavier weights, as long as you have good form and are in control of the weight than you are good to go!

2. Add healthy clean eating into your weekly schedule. Eating balanced food with a good amount of protein, carbs and fats is key, while staying away from the fast foods, junk, extra salts and sugars. This means we must eat about every three to four hours and make good choices. This keeps the metabolism going!!! More on this in other posts as well as my tab on Eating clean above!

It may not seem like a secret, but the point is this. Do what you need to do to see the results you want, it is more about creating these things to be daily habits and then it is just part of your life. The deep desire you have inside will get you started. I believe we can all do it, we just have to start.
